On-device semantic search
Find it by what you meant.
You remember the idea, but not the wording. Optional semantic search connects a question to related notes and calculations in your own library.

Illustrative query and note text. Related matches depend on the content in your library.Exact words, related ideas.
Regular search puts exact matches first, then adds related results ranked by meaning. Titles, note text, tags, labels, and saved calculation expressions and results all provide context.
- Your type and tag filters still apply.
- Image captions can be searched; image pixels are not embedded.
- The model works primarily in English. Exact search is useful for other languages, precise numbers, and identifiers.
The model comes to you.
Enable semantic search in Settings, then choose Begin download for the approximately 91 MB model or Import model folder for offline setup. Enabling alone never starts a download. A model already on the device loads automatically; indexing and queries stay local.
Meaning, with boundaries.
Add a phrase to Meaning to search for in Advanced search. AND, OR, and NOT rules still filter the results, while meaning narrows and ranks them. Save the combination as a named search.
An index you control.
Disable search to stop background work, clear the derived index when you want a fresh start, or force a reindex after changing your library.
- Disable keeps the disk cache for later.
- Clear index & disable removes derived vectors, keeping your notes and stored model.
- Force reindex rebuilds accessible content while search is enabled and a model is available. It never starts a download. Unlock protected notes to include them in the UI’s index.
